Kenwood Tkb720 Specs

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF is a desktop base radio that boasts heavy-duty modular construction. This model was manufactured in Japan by Kenwood. The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF base radio's basic design integrates solid-state electronics and microprocessors.

Construction

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF base radio's internal die-cast chassis and die-cast heatsink are integrated with a modular construction for reliability and shielding. The large heatsink allows the unit to run in a heavy-duty cycle when the system is in the active state for long periods of time. The amplifier mounted on the heatsink provides thermal conduction.

Design

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF has a height of 4.72 inches (120 mm), a width of 12.99 inches (330 mm), and a depth of 15.08 inches (383 mm). It weighs 27.56 pounds (12.5 kg).

Receive/Transmit (RX/TX) Design

With a frequency range of 150 to 174 MHz and a Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO), the Kenwood TKB-720 assures high-frequency accuracy (audio distortion is less than 3% at 1000 Hz) and stability (±0.0005% from -30º C to +60º C) in all kinds of environments. The Kenwood TKB-720 has a selectivity of -85 dB meaning it can selectively tune to a frequency without interference from adjacent frequencies.

RF Output Power

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF has an RF output power of 50 watts.

Synthesized Channel Capacity

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF offers a synthesized design coupled with E2PROM. Users can add up to nine semi-duplex channels. With further modification, users can add up to 16 semi-duplex channels.

Wideband Channel Frequency Spread

The design of the Kenwood TKB-720 VHF base radio allows the transmitter to spread 7 MHz and the receiver to spread 4 MHz. This provides flexibility in system designs with multiple channel operations. The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF has a channel spacing of 30 kHz and a PLL channel step of 5 kHz.

LED Display

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF base radio's amber LED display comes with an automatic dimmer circuit that allows users to see the operating channels in both bright and dark settings. The indicators "TX" and "BUSY" on the front panel allow users to identify the unit's current operating status.

Front-Mounted Speaker

The Kenwood TKB-720 VHF base radio's front-mounted speaker produces sounds with less than five percent distortion using a full 4 watts of receiver output.
