The Nokia 5300 XpressMusic is a quad-band GSM phone that can be operated on various cell phone networks around the world. However, in order to use your phone on carriers other than its original carrier, you must first unlock it. Complete the unlocking process with the help of online unlocking resources and the removal of your phone's SIM card.
Instructions
1. Remove the battery cover from your phone, and then remove the phone's battery.
2. Locate the sticker on the back of your phone, and write down the phone's IMEI number (you will need this later in the process). Alternately, power on your phone, and when the main display screen is shown, type *#06# on your phone's keypad. The IMEI number will display on your phone's screen. Write this number down.
3. Visit a trusted online cell phone unlocking provider after you have written down your IMEI number. Both Unlocking.com and GSMLiberty.com have been in business for several years and are trusted sources, although you can visit any provider of your choice.
4. Find your phone on the unlock site you chose to use by searching the manufacturer (Nokia) and then model (5300 XpressMusic). You will then need to enter your payment information, which will include a spot for your phone's IMEI number. It is important to correctly enter the right IMEI number, or the unlock code you receive will be incorrect. Each site's payment screen will differ, and provide step-by-step directions for providing the information needed.
5. Wait for the unlock code to arrive via email. Typically, this acquisition process takes one to two business days to receive.
6. Remove the SIM card from your Nokia 5300 and turn the phone on. Wait for the message that says "Insert SIM Card."
7. Type in your unlock code when the "Insert SIM Card" message appears. This code will more than likely include both numbers and symbols. When completed, the message "SIM Restriction Off" should appear, which completes the process.
8. Insert your new wireless carrier's SIM card and turn on the phone. Call your phone to ensure the process has been successfully completed.
