Lace Saddlebags

Saddlebags are essential for long-haul motorcycle trips.

Saddlebags are essential for anyone looking to go on a long-haul motorcycle trip. The two connecting bags hang on either side of the seat and can take a considerable amount of weight. Leather is a popular material for saddlebags for aesthetic and practical reasons. When you buy saddlebags, the two bags will come with three pieces of lace that are used for securing the bags to your bike.

Instructions

1. Overlap the yokes -- the strap coming off each saddlebag -- on top of your motorcycle seat. Adjust the drop of the saddlebag on either side of your seat by aligning different sets of holes. The most important thing is that neither bag touches the exhaust pipe.

2. Use one of the laces to tie together the two saddlebags, when you are happy with the positioning. Thread the lace through the aligned eye-holes on the yokes, tightening in the same way you would a boot or shoe.

3. Tie a knot to secure the saddlebags together, cutting off any excess lace. Burn the two ends of the lace with a lighter to ensure they do not unravel.

4. Secure the bottom and sides of the bags to the bike frame using the two remaining pieces of lace. All bags have numerous eye-holes to ensure convenient lacing.
