Kodak Sd Card Problems

Memory cards are a useful way to exchange graphics.

Since George Eastman made the first consumer camera in 1888, Eastman Kodak has consistently made quality photographic products. And, as the Kodak Milestones history puts it, Eastman had a goal to make photography "as convenient as the pencil..." Kodak continues this tradition in the 21st century with its digital products. The problems with Kodak's SD cards are few and comparable with other SD card manufacturers.

Types

Kodak makes several SD memory cards--the SDHC High-Speed, SDHC, SD High-Speed, MICROSD and SD cards. The difference between the cards is speed and memory capacity. The high-speed cards come in various memory capacities and have a fast data transfer rates. The regular SD cards have a slower data transfer rate and come in various memory capacities.

Problems

One of the problems with Kodak SD cards is, according to Lexar (manufacturer of memory cards and the support company for Kodak), not all SD devices support the 2GB SD cards. Always check the manufacturer's specifications for compatibility before using the 2GB SD card. Other problems are file corruption, virus infected folders, format corruption and accidental deletion. These issues are not isolated to Kodak cards. The Kodak SD cards do not have any problems specific to the brand.

Solutions

If a SD card does suffer data loss from a virus, corruption or other problem, data recovery software is available. Lexar offers image recovery software for SD cards and it supports the Kodak SD cards. Other recovery software is available; there are also online services for data recovery.

Compatibility

Kodak SD cards are compatible with a large selection of electronic devices. These include digital cameras, digital frames, pocket video cameras and other devices. Make sure to check the device literature for product compatibility.

Reliability

Lexar manufactures and services the Kodak brand SD card. It has been making memory cards since 1996. With the new 16GB high-speed SD Kodak card, Lexar offers a lifetime warranty, according to Dong Ngo, a CNET editor.

Cost

Kodak's pricing is in the mid-range for this product. When shopping for SD memory cards, remember to compare more than just the price. Durability and reliability are important factors to consider.
