An external hard enables two computers running Adobe Lightroom to sync.
Adobe Lightroom is an invaluable tool to help both professional and enthusiast photographers view, manage, and edit large collections of digital photos. Adobe Lightroom is installed on a Mac or PC and serves as a database for digital pictures once they are copied from a Flash memory card. The main functions Adobe Lightroom performs include an image library, a basic photo editor, a slideshow builder, an extensive printing engine and a web content creator. It is often useful for a photographer to have the ability to transfer their work-in-progress from one computer running Lightroom to another computer also running Lightroom. This process is called "syncing."
Instructions
Exporting a Lightroom Catalog
1. Attach a removable hard drive or other external storage device to the computer, which contains the Adobe Lightroom files you want to sync.
2. Open Adobe Lightroom on the first computer.
3. Highlight all the photographs in the Library panel.
4. Go to the File menu and click on "Export as Catalog."
5. Deselect the "Export Selected Photos Only" and "Export Negative Files" boxes. This allows the full library of images to be transferred, including the original photos.
6. Click on the "Export Catalog" button. Older versions of Adobe Lightroom might read, "Save" or "OK" instead of "Export Catalog."
7. Exit Adobe Lightroom.
8. Disconnect the external drive from the original computer.
Importing a Lightroom Catalog
9. Connect the external hard drive to the computer where you want the Lightroom files to go.
10. Open Adobe Lightroom.
11. Go to the File menu and click on "Open Catalog."
12. Navigate to the Catalog file you exported in the first section and select it. This catalog can be manipulated directly on the external hard drive, or it can be copied to the recipient computer's internal hard drive.
13. Click "Open" to import the Lightroom catalog you just created. This is the final step to synchronize two computers, using Adobe Lightroom.
