If you can't donate your old projection TV, recycle it.
As high-definition (HD) technology expands, HD-capable sets have become standard when shopping for a new television. Whether your old television is broken or you just want a new one, disposing of it may pose a challenge. Recycling an old television, such as a projection TV, may be a viable option and could earn you a discount toward a new set. There are a few options available to you when you want to recycle a projection TV.
Instructions
1. Find a recycler that has signed the e-Steward pledge. Because of the materials with which projection televisions are constructed, such as lead and plastic, they may lay in landfills for a longer time than other waste. They may cause damage to the environment, including any surrounding water supplies. Recyclers who have signed the e-Steward pledge agree to dispose of items only in facilities that are equipped to handle them.
2. Contact your local municipality or waste management company to determine the appropriate way to recycle your projection television. Some areas and organizations have programs that allow you to recycle various types of electronics.
3. Call a local electronics retail chain, such as Best Buy, to determine whether or not it accepts in-store collections of used electronics. If you are purchasing new merchandise, the store may offer you a discount on new products as an incentive.
4. Return the projection TV to the manufacturer, if the manufacturer has a recycle program. Companies such as Sony and LG have programs in which they will recycle electronics free of charge.
