A digital antenna is designed to pick up digital TV signals slightly better than analog antennas (since digital signals travel horizontally as opposed to the wave analog signals traveled in). While any TV set can work with any antenna, installing a digital antenna can help you get the best reception for your digital TV set.
Connection
A digital antenna connects to the TV set through the RF coaxial connection port. This is the cylindrical threaded port used to connect used to connect the thick, black cables used by devices such as VCRs.
Considerations
You should find the best spot in the house to get the best reception from the antenna. As with analog antennas, a general rule is that the higher you can mount the antenna, the better the reception.
Channel Scan
Once you connect the antenna, turn on the TV, go to its on-screen menu and find the channel scan option. The TV will work with the antenna to scan for all the digital channel signals available in your area.
Interference
The antenna should be placed away from other wires and any other electronic devices. These can interfere with the antenna's reception. Anything hooked up between the antenna cable and TV set can cause interference, especially if it transmits analog signals.
Warning
Some digital antennas have trouble receiving VHF channels, not receiving channels two to six and receiving the others (seven to 13) with difficulty. Its a good idea to check with a customer service expert before getting an antenna.
