Use A Negative Viewer

While most photographers have adopted digital photography for their work, there are still some die hards that use 35mm cameras and film. The draw back to film is that you don't always know what you are getting before you print the pictures. Using a negative viewer can help you choose which photos are print worthy, without printing the pictures first.

Instructions

1. Handle the negatives just on the edges. Avoid touching the images with your fingers because an oily residue will be left behind, damaging the film.

2. Check the batteries on the negative viewer to verify that they are working. Change out the batteries if the viewer does not work or the lamp light is weak. Plug the viewer in to an electric outlet if it has an AC adapter.

3. Slide the film into the negative viewer. Center the first frame on the light box. Turn the viewer on and look at the negative.

4. Carefully slide the film through the negative viewer one frame at a time until you have finished the first strip of film. Take note of the number and letter on the frames that you want to print.

5. Replace the film into a negative sleeve to protect it from damage until you take it to the printer. Store the negative sleeves in the negative viewer if your model has a storage box attached.

6. Always protect film from dust, moisture and other debris. Store film in plastic sleeves to keep them clean.
