Cleaning a camera lens properly will prevent scratching.
Camera lenses can often get dirty from dust or moisture, obstructing the clear image you want in your photo. Cleaning your camera lenses on a regular basis is required to keep your photographs looking as sharp as they can possibly be. Understanding clean your lenses like a professional takes research and practice. Trying to clean a lens without knowing the proper way can leave them permanently scratched.
Instructions
1. Drip five drops of lens cleaning solution onto your lens cleaning cloth. Place your index and middle fingers together behind the damp part of the cloth. Place these on the lens, and wipe in a clockwise pattern.
2. Inspect the lens after the moisture is gone from the lens to see if any visible dirt can be found in deep cracks in the lens. Microscopic dirt will have little effect on the photos, but dirt large enough to be identified with the naked eye should be removed. Scrub the lens lightly with the cleaning brush over the scratched areas. Wipe again with solution as you did in Step 1.
3. Hold the lens in one hand at least 3 feet away from the can of compressed air in your other hand. Press the nozzle down on the can to release a slow, steady stream of air from the compressor. Aim the compressor at the lens and move the can closer to the lens as necessary to blow away any remaining dust or fiber particles. Blow dust out of the inside of your lens as well using the compressed air.
