Take Pictures With A Canon 40d

The 40D is a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera.

The Canon 40D is a semi-professional digital single lens reflex camera. The camera features a 10.1 megapixel sensor, and the ability to take pictures at a rate up to 6.5 frames per second. These features make the camera appealing to serious amateur and professional photographers. Like the other "D" cameras in Canon's line-up, anyone who is familiar with previous models will easily navigate the 40D's controls and menu selections. The 40D works will all of Canon's EF lenses, and their external "Speedlite" flash units.

Instructions

1. Install a fully charged Canon BP-511 battery, as well as an empty compact flash memory card that is at least 4 gigabytes in size. With a 10.1 megapixel sensor, the 40D produces large file sizes; using a large capacity card will reduce the number of times you will have to change the card.

2. Turn the camera on, and turn the exposure mode dial on the top left of the camera to the mode you want to shoot in. The 40D has a number of different shooting modes, ranging from full manual to fully automatic.

3. Press the "Drive" button on the top right of the camera, and select the drive speed setting for your camera. You can select from "S" for single, "C-L" for continuous low, where the camera will shoot at 3 frames per second or "C-H" that will shoot at the top speed of 6.5 frames per second.

4. Press the "AF" button. There are three auto focus settings you can choose from. "One Shot" is used when you are shooting static objects like a landscape or portrait. "AI-Servo" and "AI-Focus" are used for moving objects, with the main difference being "AI-Servo" will keep your moving subject in focus all the time. There is also a setting for manual focus.

5. Hold the 40D to your eye, and look through the viewfinder. The 40D does not have a "Live view" feature for the rear LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen. Press the shutter release half way down to activate the camera's focus and metering programs.

6. Press the shutter release all the way down to take the picture.
