Upgrade The Western Digital Media Player

Flash drive

The WDTV is a great gadget for many applications. It can play nearly any music format, video format, and even playback photos. The WDTV HD also offers HDMI connectivity for the highest quality audio and video, all from one cable. The available USB port (or ports) offer support for high capacity drives over 1TB. To get the most out of the WDTV system, it's essential to keep its firmware up to date.

Instructions

1. Determine which generation of the WDTV you have by looking on the side of the unit. If the model is WDAVN00, you have the first generation and should use the first resources link. If the model is WDBABF0000NBK, you have the first generation and should use the second resources link.

2. Insert your flash drive into your computer and download the appropriate file. When the download has completed, right click on the .zip file and select extract. Copy the resulting files, a .bin and a .ver to the connected flash drive. Do not place the files in a folder... leave them in the main directory of the flash drive. Once the move has completed, safely remove the drive and disconnect it from your USB port.

3. Plug the USB drive into the WDTV and then power the WDTV and your television on. Make sure your TV is on the proper input to display the contents of the WDTV.

4. Select "Settings" using the on-screen menu. Scroll to "Firmware Upgrade" and select it. This will restart the system and begin the upgrade.

5. Be patient. This process will take some time. Once the upgrade is complete, the WDTV will restart itself automatically. Your system will be ready for use at this point.
