Make A Webcam Using A Camera

You can practically turn any old camera into a webcam without any hassle or proprietary software. If your computer has a video input (it usually looks like a small round yellow connector), you can already start doing this as long as your camera supports standard video output. If your computer doesn't have such hardware, you will need to buy a peripheral video capture device which fits in any PCI slot. The process of connecting your camera to your PC and using it as a webcam is a very simple process.

Instructions

1. Check if your camera is capable of supporting standard video output. You will know it supports this if your camera came with a cable that is used to connect the camera to a television set. If your camera does not support standard video output, and you tried to use it as a webcam through USB, you probably cannot use it as a webcam.

2. Connect the video cable to the camera and make sure that it goes in all the way. If you do not connect the cable all the way in your camera, it might not send a video feed correctly to your PC.

3. Connect the cable to your computer just like you would connect it to a television set. Make sure the cable is snugly connected to the connector.

4. Turn on your computer if you haven't done so already.

5. Click on "My Computer" and see if your camera appears. If it does not, check all the connections again. If you are using a peripheral video capture device, you might have forgotten to install the software that came with it. If you haven't installed it, take a moment to do so now, and try looking for your camera after you finish the installation.

6. Run the program that you normally use to communicate with others through webcam, and see if it detects your camera now. Try and let others see you from your webcam.
