If you are considering a film camera instead of a digital SLR, the digital SLR will prove to be significantly cheaper over the life of the camera because you do not have to pay for film. In addition, you only have to store the shots that you want to save, so if you take a picture and decide you do not want to keep it, you can instantly delete it, clearing up space on your memory card. With film, you would have to carry around dozens of rolls of film and will not be able to see the results instantly.
