Specifications For Surveillance & Security Systems

Some cameras are for day vision, others work well at night.

Manufacturers of surveillance and security systems provide detail specifications regarding the equipment. Consider a system's purpose (commercial or residential) and the specifications of technology before choosing a system.

Cameras

Security cameras have their own set of specifications. They may be color or black and white, or for indoor or outdoor use. For larger systems, you might have the opportunity to use mapping software to choose the number of cameras you'll need. Small home systems are available with setups for two, four, six or eight cameras.

Viewing

Some surveillance systems are analog, some are digital. Systems are available that interface with your computer allowing you to monitor your system via computer or Internet. Systems are also available allowing you to monitor your system via cell phones.

Size/Visibility

Consider the visibility of a surveillance system and decide if it matches your purpose. Hidden cameras are tiny and easily relocated. Larger, more obvious cameras are appropriate for retail business settings.
