Maintain A Cb Radio

A CB radio is a short range radio that uses a 27 MHz bandwidth. You need to be licensed to own and operate one. Whether your CB radio is a part of your job or a part of your free time, it must be properly maintained to serve you well. Maintaining a CB radio requires a basic electrician's knowledge.

Instructions

1. Purchase your CB radio from a reputable dealer. Buy new or used, however, when purchasing a pre-owned radio make sure that it was well taken care of before you buy it. Have a professional install the radio when mounting it in a vehicle.

2. Use a transmitter RF carrier power output that does not exceed 4 watts. A booster may be fun, but could damage the radio. Employ a bridge rectifier to protect against rig polarity.

3. Apply WD40 or another type of oil to the contacts. This keeps the microphone switch from cracking and creating interference.

4. Replace socket pins or aerial socket segments as they split or come loose. Watch them closely to ensure that they are repaired immediately before they ruin your connection.

5. Sand the S meter lens if it's scratched. Utilize 400 grade sand paper until the S meter lens is opaque. Polish the S meter lens with Brasso. This solves the problems created by the scratch.
