Format A Samsung Epic 4g

Two main reasons to format your Samsung Epic 4G are to erase your personal information from the device before you give it away, or to take the device back to its factory settings to resolve a software issue. The Samsung Epic comes with a menu option within the device's software that will format the device, a process also called a hard reset. If you can't get to the Epic's menu system because of software issues, you can also perform the reset using a button combination.

Instructions

Format Using Software

1. Tap the "Home" button on the face of your device to bring up the home screen. Then tap the "Menu" button to bring up the menu.

2. Tap "Settings" on the menu and then tap "Privacy" to select it from the Settings menu. Move your finger up the screen to get to the bottom of the Privacy menu and tap "Factory data reset" at the bottom of the menu.

3. Tap "Reset phone" when it appears on the screen. Enter your device's password, which will be the last four digits of the Epic's phone number, unless you changed it, and tap "Yes" to complete the process. Your device will now revert to its factory settings and erase all your information.

Format Using Hardware

4. Press and hold the "Power" button on the top of the Epic's right side to turn the device off.

5. Press and hold the bottom of the volume button on the Epic's left side. Press the "Power" button while holding down the volume button. Continue to hold the volume button down until a menu appears on the screen.

6. Release the volume down button, and then use it to scroll down the menu until you highlight the "Clear Storage" option. Press the "Power" button to select this option.

7. Press the top of the volume button to confirm your selection and wipe your device.
