Digital-to-analog converter boxes connect to older, tube-style television sets to enable them to receive digital broadcasting. All broadcasting stations are required by the Federal Communications Commission to transmit digital signals. A converter box enables these signals to be processed on an analog TV. Converter boxes are widely available at electronics stores, major retail chains and online outlets.
Instructions
1. Contact electronics stores such as Radio Shack to determine if converter boxes are in stock. Local non-chain stores that specialize in the sale of parts and repairs for electronic equipment may also carry converter boxes.
2. Check with major retail stores such as Sears, Wal-Mart and K-Mart to see if converter boxes are available. Big-box retailers that sell televisions usually stock converter boxes as well, but since all new televisions are now digital, converter boxes may be a special-order item at national chain stores.
3. Review the converter boxes available through online retailers to compare prices with bricks and mortar stores. Be sure to factor in the cost of shipping when pricing online merchandise.
