Transferring footage from your Handycam to your computer is a simple process.
Digital camcorders that record to MiniDV tapes are becoming increasingly popular, especially with families that want to record special occasions and preserve moments in the family's life. Before digital video cameras, what you recorded was what you ended up with. Now, digital video can easily be uploaded to your computer and edited, burned to DVD, posted online, and shared via email. With your Sony Handycam and your video editing software, you have the power to save and edit the footage of your memories.
Instructions
1. Plug the included USB cable into your Handycam. Make sure it's plugged in with the correct orientation.
2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to your computer's USB port.
3. Turn the camera on to the playback mode.
4. Select "[STD-USB]" from the menu in order to prepare the camera to communicate with the computer.
5. Open your video editing software.
6. Select the option from the menu that allows you to capture video and put it onto your hard drive.
7. Choose your camera as the input device in the window that appears.
8. Select the folder where you want to save your video clips to or create a new folder.
9. Click the appropriate capture option. In some programs, you will have the ability to capture the entire tape or portions of the tape. In more advanced software, you will be able to control the camera and select various clips you wish to capture, which are then captured automatically. The important point is to tell the computer to capture the video.
10. Navigate to the folder you have selected to save your clips to after the video has finished transferring. From there you can open the files in your video editor.
