The Nikon Coolpix S9 camera is a sleek and easy to use camera that is capable of taking images at a resolution of 6.1 megapixels with a 3x zoom. Compromising a bit of quality for a sleek design, the Nikon Coolpix S9 is ultra-compact--easily able to fit in your pocket--and reasonably priced, but does have its problems. Following are some troubleshooting tips.
Flickering Problem
A flickering problem may occur with the Nikon Coolpix S9 Camera where green or pink horizontal lines show on the LCD. When a picture is taken, the lines will show up on the image, or the screen will turn black. This could be caused by a bad part called a CCD (image sensor) and is a widespread problem among hundreds of computer imaging products. Contact Nikon via the Nikon website (listed below in Resources) and a customer representative will have you send the camera in to Nikon for a free repair.
Lens Error
When you turn on the Nikon Coolpix S9, you may see "lens error" on the LCD. You may not be able to take pictures, adjust the settings, or view images. This is usually caused by some trauma to the camera, such as dropping it or rattling it too hard. The zoom lens on the inside is a fragile part and can be thrown out of alignment. Before sending it in for repair, give the camera a slight tap and turn it back on to see if that fixes the problem. If tapping the camera does not work, and you still have a warranty, you can send the camera back to the department store you purchased it from, or Nikon. Be warned that Nikon may suggest that the damage occurred while you were using the camera, so they may not honor the warranty in this case.
If tapping the camera worked, immediately put the camera in "Playback" mode by clicking the "Mode" button on the back of the camera until Playback is displayed. When you turn your camera on, it will start in Playback mode and will not immediately try to open the lens and cause the lens error again.
Memory Errors
If you put your newly purchased memory card into your Nikon Coolpix S9 and the camera will not read the card or format it, then you may have purchased the wrong type of memory for the camera. The Nikon Coolpix S9 camera only accepts SD (Secure Digital) cards.
