Play Backups On A Wii Without A Modchip

An SD card lets you back up your WiiWare and Virtual Console games.

Use an SD card to store and back up your favorite Virtual Console and WiiWare titles on your Nintendo Wii. The Nintendo Wii has fairly limited internal memory space, so you'll eventually have to store some games on an SD card if you're a frequent downloader. Fortunately, you can play your backed-up games right from the SD card.

Instructions

Back Up the Game(s)

1. Open the SD card slot cover located on the front of your Nintendo Wii (to the left of the disk slot if your Wii is vertical). Insert the SD card into the slot.

2. Power on your Nintendo Wii. Use your Wii Remote to select the "Wii" icon, and then select "Data Management" from the next menu.

3. Select "Wii Channels." Browse through your available channels until you locate the WiiWare or Virtual Console title you want to back up. Click it and select "Move" to relocate it to the SD card or "Copy" to create a copy of it on your SD card.

Play the Backup(s)

4. Insert the SD card containing the game(s) you wish to play and power on your Nintendo Wii.

5. Select the "SD" icon at the bottom of the screen. This pulls up a menu very similar to the Wii home menu, but with a black background.

6. Navigate the SD menu using the "+" and "-" buttons to scroll from screen to screen. Select the WiiWare or Virtual Console title you wish to play, and then select "Run" to play the game as normal.
