Types Of Captive Works Problems

CaptiveWorks has manufactured digital video receivers and distributed them in the United States and Canada since 2005. The company designs its receivers for use with the Linux operating system on a computer. As any piece of electronic technology, many problems can occur from time to time with CaptiveWorks receivers; becoming aware of a few of the most common issues and solve them can save a great deal of time and effort for customers.

Power-Up Problems

Should you encounter problems while attempting to power up your receiver, try a few troubleshooting possibilities. If your machine simply does not power up, the power switch cable has likely come loose. In order to fix this problem, simply disconnect the receiver's power, follow the red and black wires coming from the front panel to their origin and ensure that they remain tightly plugged in.

If you hear the machine's fan running but see no picture, your receiver's memory module may have become unseated. Unplug the machine and find the memory, located beneath the DVD tray. Unclip the two latches on the side, and push the memory back into its slot until you hear the latches click into place.

Remote Control Problems

Many problems can also occur with CaptiveWorks remote controls, including lack range on your remote control, random keystrokes and inoperable keys.

Lack of range on a remote usually results from low batteries. However, if new batteries do not help, your remote's sensor might be out of alignment. Pop off the remote's front cover, unscrew the remote sensor board, adjust the sensor to center it, then reassemble it.

Random keystrokes also usually result from low batteries, although they can also stem from sensor misalignment. Try adjusting the sensor as described above.

If your keys are not working at all, you'll likely need to perform a system shutdown. You can perform a shutdown in several ways. If you can get to the receiver's main menu, simply shut off the power that way. You can also connect a computer keyboard to the receiver and press the "CTRL," "ALT" and "BACKSPC" keys simultaneously, then pressing the "ALT" and "F1" keys simultaneously. A command prompt will appear; type the command "shutdown.sh." For a last resort, simply hold down the "Power" button on the receiver for five seconds until it shuts down.

Display Problems

Problems with your CaptiveWorks receiver's display system usually involve an interruption of the display. Sometimes, you will see the receiver's boot screens but then the screen will go blank---usually resulting from your having hooked up the television using more than one display connector method. To fix this problem, wait a few minutes, point your remote at the screen and type "1346." This code reboots the receiver with a default display setting.
