Activate A Cingular Prepaid Cell Phone

AT&T offers prepaid cell phone plans.

AT&T, formerly known as Cingular, provides two prepaid cell phone plans. The GoPhone plans offer a pay-as-you-go option and a pick-your-plan option. The pay-as-you-go plan allows you to pay in advance for what you need. You can add money to your account online, at any AT&T wireless store or by dialing *611 from your cell phone. The pick-your-plan option requires that you pick a rate plan and set up automatic payments that will be deducted from your debit card, credit card or checking account.

Instructions

1. Log onto wireless.att.com. Select "Get GoPhone" located at the bottom of the page. This will take you to the page detailing AT&T's GoPhone plans.

2. Select "Activate Now" located in the upper-right corner of the page (see Resources section for link).

3. Determine the type of plan you would like to have when activating your GoPhone. You can choose between the pay-as-you-go-plan and the pick-your-plan option.

4. Enter your SIM card number. You can find this number on the outside of the package on a white label with barcodes. This set of numbers begins with the letters "ICCID." Your SIM number can be retrieved from the SIM card located behind your cell phone battery. It is a small rectangular card. This 20-digit number begins with 89.

5. Follow the remaining prompts to activate your cell phone. At the end of your activation you will receive your new cell phone number.
