Troubleshoot Hp Camera Card Drives

Camera card drives that are used with a computer are referred to as memory card readers. Memory card readers are able to read the data on many types of camera memory cards, including SD memory cards, SmartMedia cards and Memory Stick Duo cards, among others. When a problem occurs with a memory card reader on your HP computer, you need to determine if there is a specific issue that needs to be corrected.

Instructions

Check Memory Card

1. Take the card out of the memory card reader and insert a new card. If the computer detects the memory card, the card reader is working correctly.

2. Examine the memory card and see if there is a read/write switch. Move the switch to "Write" to make the memory card writable. If the switch is missing, place a piece of tape over the hole. Insert the card back into the card reader.

3. Clean the metal contacts on the memory card with a clean cloth to remove any dust or dirt. Insert the memory card in the card reader to see if it is now recognized by the computer.

Format Memory Card

4. Click the "Start" button and then select the option for "Computer."

5. Right-click the icon for your memory card and select "Format" from the context menu.

6. Enter a name for the Volume label in the text box and click the "Start" button. Wait for the process to complete.

7. Click the "OK" button when the Format Complete window is displayed.

8. Click the "Close" button to close the Format Complete window.
