Sunpak Digital Flash Units That Are Compatible With The Canon 20d

Sunpak produces a number of flashes that will work with the Canon 20D

Released by Canon in 2004, the 20D is a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera with an 8.2-megapixel sensor. A number of third-party manufacturers produce external flashes that will work with the 20D. One is Sunpak. Sunpak has produced a number of external flashes, including "ring lights" used for macro photography and a "All Weather and Marine" flash that is water-resistant to 45 meters.

Dmarco Ring Light

The Dmarco Ring Light attaches to the front of the lens mounted to the Canon 20D. The light is donut shaped, allowing the lens to function correctly and providing a even burst of light illuminating a subject that is very close to the lens. The control unit for the flash connects traditionally to the camera's hot shoe.

This flash has no external electrical contacts, it does not mount to the hot shoe, but rather the "L" shaped bracket is attached to the bottom of the Canon 20D's tripod screw. The flash is triggered by a "slave" trigger that requires activation of the Canon 20D's pop-up flash.

Traditional Flash Units

Sunpak also produces traditional external flash units that are attached to the Canon 20D's hot shoe and are designed to work using the cameras internal metering systems. The flashes have a number of features and power levels, the most common being a tilting and rotating flash head, and the ability to vary the power output of the flash unit.
