Install Two Amps And An Equalizer

Connecting two amplifiers to an equalizer

An equalizer is a good addition to your sound system if you want more tone control over the music you're playing through your amplifiers. You can connect your audio sources like a CD player or tuner to an equalizer and adjust the sound to your liking. But if you need to connect two separate amplifiers to a single equalizer that only has one set of outputs then you need to split the signal coming from the equalizer. You can do that by purchasing a pair of Y-adapters that will split the signal coming out of the equalizer.

Instructions

1. Insert the male end of one of the Y-adapters into the right channel output and the other Y-adapter into the left channel output on the back of the equalizer.

2. Insert the plug on the end of one of the RCA cables colored red or marked "Right" into one of the female ends of the Y-adapter plugged into the right channel on the equalizer. Insert the end of the second RCA for the right channel into the other female end of the Y-adapter plugged into the right channel of the equalizer.

3. Insert the plug on the end of one of the RCA cables colored white or marked "Left" into one of the female ends of the Y-adapter plugged into the left channel on the equalizer. Insert the end of the second RCA for the left channel into the other female end of the Y-adapter plugged into the left channel of the equalizer.

4. Take one of the RCA cables plugged into the equalizer and run it to one of the two amps. Insert the other end of the cable connected to the right channel of the equalizer into the right channel input on the back of the amplifier. Insert the other end of the cable that is connected to the left channel on the equalizer into the left channel input on the amplifier.

5. Take the other RCA cable plugged into the equalizer and run it to the second amp. Insert the other end of the second cable connected to the right channel of the equalizer into the right channel input on the back of the second amplifier. Insert the other end of the same cable connected to the left channel on the equalizer into the left channel input on the second amplifier.

6. Plug the power cord of the equalizer into a wall outlet or surge protector that is plugged into a wall outlet.

7. Plug the power cords for the two amplifiers into a wall outlet or surge protector that is plugged into a wall outlet.
