Lasers Used In Catching Speeding Violations

Lasers are the latest technology used to detect speeding.

Lasers are the latest technology used by police officers to catch speeders. A police laser is a highly focused light beam that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Lasers check speed by measuring the change in the amount of time it takes to see pulses of light reflected off a moving vehicle. Police laser guns represents a technological advance over radar guns because they can pick out one vehicle in a chaotic traffic situation in the hands of a proficient user. Therefore they are thought to be more accurate than radar guns.

Kustom Signals, ProLaser III

This model is held by the handle and can check the speed of a target that is up to 6,000 feet away. The police officer operating the ProLaser III focuses on a car, holds the trigger and then gets a continuously updated speed reading displayed on the screen. The continuously updated speed reading allows the officer to develop a complete tracking history of the speeding violation, which is preferred by most judicial systems. The ProLaser III allows the officer to select an environmental mode to minimize the effects of bad weather on his reading.

Stalker LIDAR LR

The Stalker LIDAR LR is a hand-held laser that can check the speed of a moving target at up to 4,000 feet away. After the officer presses the trigger, the unit can either give a single speed reading or it can take continuous speed readings. The display tells the officer the vehicle's speed and how far away it is.

Laser Atlanta, SpeedLaser S

Laser Atlanta's SpeedLaser S is a hand-held laser gun that is popular among police officers. Laser Atlanta guns have stealth mode technology which makes them resistant to laser jamming equipment. Using this laser gun, officers can get a reading in 0.3 seconds for vehicles that are up to 7,000 feet away.

Kustom Signals, Pro-Lite+

This laser looks like a pair of binoculars and even comes with a strap so it can be worn around the neck. Kustom Signals claims the Pro-Lite+ is the smallest and lightest laser speed enforcement device on the market. It comes with an environmental mode to minimize the effects of weather and has a range of up to 2,000 feet.
