Scan Negatives With The Hp Scanjet 8200

Scan Negatives with the HP ScanJet 8200

The HP Scanjet 8200 is a flatbed scanner, with a large lid covering the scanner's glass surface. It can scan odd-shaped items that document scanners are unable to handle, such as books or photographic negatives. The TMA or transparent media adapter section in the 8200's lid makes it possible to scan negatives and slides. The TMA turns off the bulb underneath the scanning glass and turns on a bulb embedded in the scanner's lid.

Instructions

1. Turn on the scanner and the attached computer. Make sure the cord connecting the scanner's lid to the scanner's base is plugged in securely.

2. Open the scanner lid, peel back the white transparent media adapter cover on the inside of the lid and set it aside. Double-click on the Scanjet 8200's software icon on the computer desktop.

3. Click on the "Scan Picture" button in the main menu of the scanner software. Click "Negatives from a Transparent Materials Adapter (TMA)" in the scanner software window.

4. Slide the middle shield out of the TMA in the scanner lid and set it aside. Insert a strip of negatives into the TMA with the shiny side facing out and slide the strip down to the end of the TMA.

5. Slide the middle shield back into the TMA until it touches the negative strip, if the strip consists of less than four frames, otherwise set the middle shield off to the side. Close the scanner lid and click "Scan" in the software window.

6. Use the computer mouse to adjust the scan box in the preview window, then click "Accept." Open the scanner and remove the negative strip, then replace the TMA's middle shield and cover.
