Fix A Scratched Xd Card

An XD card cannot work properly if the contact pins are scratched.

An XD memory card has no moving parts that can be damaged, but the connector slot attached to the card can be scratched and cease to properly transfer data. A few household and computer supplies, as well as some common household tools, are required to fix a scratched XD card connector slot so that the contents of the drive can be copied to a computer.

Instructions

1. Blow off both sides of the XD card connector slot with bursts of compressed air. Place a lint-free cloth on a table. Place the XD card on the table with the pins on the connector slot facing up and to the right.

2. Hold a magnifying glass over the XD card. Gently trace the horizontal lines of the pins on the connector slot with the tip of metal-tipped tweezers.

3. Dip a cotton swab in distilled alcohol. Place the moistened swab against the top of the XD card, just to the left of where the connector slot meets the case. Swipe the swab across the pins on the connector slot.

4. Place the XD card at an angle against a computer keyboard with the connector slot facing up. Let the XD card dry for at least two hours.

5. Insert the XD card connector slot into the SD slot on an SD adapter. Pull the XD card connector slot out of the SD adapter. Repeat this procedure an additional three times to ensure that the pins make a connection inside the adapter.

6. Right-click the desktop. Select "New Folder" from the pop-up menu. Name the folder "XD card."

7. Insert the SD adapter's USB connector in a USB port on the computer. Double-click the icon of the SD card when it appears on the desktop.

8. Click inside the window that appears. Click the "Cntrl" + "A" button to select all the contents. Drag the contents out of the window and into the "XD card" folder. A copy progress bar appears, fills in from right to left and then disappears.

9. Right-click the icon of the XD card. Select "Eject" from the pop-up window. Remove the SD adapter from the USB port of the computer. Remove the XD card from the SD adapter.
