Program Trunking Scanners

Trunking scanners are a type of emergency frequency scanner that allows the user to program in emergency channels such as fire departments, police departments and ambulance channels to help you stay on top of emergency situations. A trunking scanner is unique in that it allows you to listen to multiple emergency agencies communicating with each other on one channel without having to switch back and forth between frequencies. By using the buttons on the front of the scanner you can save your favorite emergency frequencies.

Instructions

1. Press the "Man" button on your scanner to enter manual mode. Use the number pad on the center of your emergency scanner to enter in the channel number that you want to save. Different scanners have different numbers of channels that you can save---in the instance of the Radio Shack Pro-91 Scanner, you can store up to 150 channels. Refer to the user's manual of your model of scanner to know how many channels you can save.

2. Locate the list of frequencies for your area. You can do this several different ways, including using the database map located at radioreference.com (See Resources). When you have located all the local frequencies you want to program into your radio, write them down for future reference.

3. Press the "Prog" button to enter programming mode. The channel that you selected to save a frequency to will appear in the display. Use the number pad to enter in the first frequency on your list. Include the decimal point in the correct position or you will not be able to listen to the frequency. Press "E" or "OK" when finished to save your frequency.

4. Repeat the process by entering in a new channel with the number pad and pressing the "Prog" button again, followed by the frequency you want to save. Press the "E" or "OK" button after each frequency to save it to the memory of your scanner.
