What Is A Nikon Mbd80

The Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack attaches to the Nikon D80 and D90 digital SLR cameras. It offers more stability and extended battery life for photographers looking to lengthen their shooting time.

Added Stability

According to Nikon, the MB-D80 provides added stability when attached to Nikon D80 and D90 cameras. This stability comes from the battery unit, as it is attached to the bottom of the camera, adding weight for better balance.

Batteries

The MB-D80 can use either Nikon EN-EL3e rechargeable lithium-ion batteries or six AA-size batteries, according to Nikon's MB-D80 webpage. AA battery types include alkaline, nickel metal hydride, lithium, and nickel manganese.

Power Usage

The MB-D80 stores batteries in two terminals, left and right, and it pulls power from the right terminal first. However, both terminals do not need to be occupied in order for the MB-D80 to operate. If the right terminal is unoccupied, it will immediately take power from the left terminal.

Extended Life

According to Nikon's D80 webpage, a single, fully-charged EN-EL3e battery can provide 2,700 images at 10.2 megapixels each. The MB-D80 can hold two EN-EL3e batteries, essentially doubling the shooting life of a standard D80 or D90 camera.
