Use Two Manual Ais Lenses On A D200

Auto Indexing Shutter (AIS) lenses were introduced in 1981 by Nikon and use a linear action diaphragm for more accurate and faster shutter priority and programmed exposures. However, this feature does not work with the Nikon D200 digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera. Originally designed for Nikon film cameras, the manual AIS lenses themselves will work with digital cameras, including the D200, however, no automatic features will be available, and all photography must be done in manual mode.

Instructions

1. Attach a manual AIS lens to the D200 camera body as you would any other lens. Select manual focusing by selecting "M" on the mode selector dial located on the top, left-hand side of the camera body.

2. Adjust the aperture manually on the lens. (The auto-aperture control on the camera will not work with an AIS lens). Adjust the ISO (electronic sensor sensitivity) and shutter speed within the camera controls by using the menu or multi-command dial located on the upper, right-hand side of the camera back.

3. Compose your photographic subject as you normally would by looking through the viewfinder. Focus manually, and use the TTL (through the lens) electronic analog exposure display located along the bottom of the viewfinder display to adjust exposure values.
